Admitted Students

Congratulations! You are about to begin one of the most exciting chapters in your life. Law is a demanding, noble profession offering the potential for a rewarding and fulfilling career. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to start your journey. To get started, here's what you need to do:

1. Request Official Transcripts

If you have not already requested final official transcripts be sent to the LSAC's Credential Assembly Service from every educational institution attended since you graduated from high school, then you should do so as soon as possible. The Service will provide us with verification of receipt of all transcripts once the have been authenticated. If you need help, the LSAC website has additional information about requesting transcripts.

Prior to matriculation, at least one transcript must indicate the award of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education. If you will earn a degree after you requested a transcript initially, then you must request a new, updated transcript be sent to the Credential Assembly Service once the degree has been awarded.

If you or a sending institution has questions, please contact us at 865.545.5304 or law.admissions@LMUnet.edu

2. Disclose Changes to Applicant Data

All students are under a continuous obligation to inform us of any changes to information contained in your law school application. Breach of this disclosure obligation could result in sanctions. This includes any changes of address, phone numbers, email addresses, arrests, financial obligations, tickets, you become party to a lawsuit, etc. Should something change, simply write a complete explanation and send it to us.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of this obligation. Fear of embarrassment or concerns about bar admission often motivates students to conceal personal information someone might not want to disclose. However, concealing this information in the face of a disclosure obligation is a form of misconduct raising its own concerns about your character and fitness for the practice of law. The board of bar examiners in the state where you plan to take the bar exam requires that you undergo a criminal and financial background check. You will have to explain any discrepancies between these search results, the contents of your bar application, and information in your law school file. Failure to account for any inconsistencies may prevent you from bar admission. Therefore, failure to disclose information to us over the duration of your studies not only violates our Code of Conduct but can jeopardize your eligibility to sit for state bar examinations.

3. Register for Student Financial Services

You may register for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to select LMU as your school. The Federal School Code for LMU is 003502. LMU's main campus is located in Harrogate, Tennessee, so notwithstanding the fact the law school is located in Knoxville, please use the code listed. Please register for financial aid as early as possible as this will determine when funds are disbursed. There is additional information on our Student Financial Services page.

Notification of financial aid will be sent to your LMU email address once the Office of Student Financial Services has received notification that your FAFSA has been processed by the U.S. Department of Education. Remember, you must sign your Master Promissory Note (if financial aid has been requested) electronically and complete your Entrance Counseling on the FAFSA website before financial aid can be awarded.

Per U.S. Department of Education regulations, financial aid will disbursed approximately three to four weeks after school begins each semester.

If you will not accept financial aid, please notify us by email at law.admissions@LMUnet.edu

4. Note Important Dates

Matriculating students must attend Orientation and the start of classes. Other important dates throughout the year are recorded on the academic calendar. The academic calendar is available on this site under "Current Students" and then "Academic Calendar."

For classes starting in August 2024, here are a few dates to keep in mind:

- Full-Time Students

  • Mandatory Orientation: August 19 & 20, 2024
  • Classes Begin: August 22, 2024

- Part-Time/Hybrid Students

  • Mandatory Orientation: August 16-20, 2024
  • Classes Begin: August 22

Information for 2025 will be loaded as soon as the academic calendar is approved by the Board of Trustees in November 2024.

5. Laptop/Tablet

You should provide your own laptop computer or tablet. We will provide any software necessary for your course of study. We have on-site technical support should you have any issues. Should you have questions about what type of laptop you need or want to speak to someone with Information Services, it can be reached by telephone at (423) 869-7411 or by email at helpdesk@dos5.net

6. Look for Housing

LMU Law is a non-residential campus. If you do not already live in the Knoxville area, then you will need to find a place to live. Apartments and housing closest to downtown and the University of Tennessee do not stay vacant for long. However, the law school is easily accessible from the interstate, and rush-hour traffic is not very heavy. LMU Law allows remote access to library resources, which is a valuable asset to students who commute longer distances. We also have plenty of small rooms where students can study to avoid going home between classes.

Housing opportunities can be located through the LMU Law Student Bar Association website or in the Knoxville Apartment Guide.

Once you have accepted an offer and we receive your acceptance forms, we will send you information to your class' Facebook page. On the site, you can introduce yourself, look for a roommate, or ask questions of your fellow classmates. The Office of Admissions does not monitor the site, so if you have questions, please contact us directly either by telephone at (865) 545-5304 or (865) 545-5303, or by email at law.admissions@LMUnet.edu.

7. Reserve Parking

LMU Law does not provide parking for our students; however, there are several parking areas close to the law school. We will provide contact information for nearby lots and garages. LMU Law receives a special rate at the Walnut Street/Langley Garage, and it is available once you arrive. Currently, the rate is $425 per semester for the 2024-2025 academic year. You are not required to obtain parking through the law school.

8. Keep communication flowing

We rely heavily on email here at the law school, and we ask that you check and read your email regularly.

Enjoy the rest of the summer, and know that we are here to help your transition to law school.

If you have any questions, call 865-545-5303 or email us at law.admissions@LMUnet.edu.
